smiley Welcome to Foxes smiley

As we start the summer term, Foxes must be congratulated for all the hard work that they have put into raising their level of achievement in the weekly arithmetic test, well done, I'm most impressed by your progress. However there are still the reasoning tests to be conquered, and lots of hard work to do there.

This term we will be focusing on covering Geometry and Data Handling areas of study as well as spending more time looking at past reasoning papers and improving both the children's confidence and test technique.

By the summer term all children should already know their times tables off by heart and any children who are not confident would benefit from doing some intensive revision on Mathsletics and Purple Mash at home.

Every half term we try to base our English work around different set books, this term we have chosen Sam's Duck and Jamie to Jo'berg.

Being able to read confidently, will assist your child in all aspects of their study. Every child should be encouraged to read every day. Sharing a book with a child can be a very rewarding experience for both parties and the more interest we can show, the harder a child will strive to succeed and the more enthusiastic they will become. An enthusiastic and engaged child find's learning easy. We have a plentiful supply of texts in Foxes and there is no reason why any child should not be able to find a book that appeals to them. Each week we do some comprehension work, trying to focus on different areas of competence to promote learning at greater depth. I have been very pleased with the improvement in the standard of their written answers over the past 2 terms.

Myths and Legends is our and exciting IPC topic. I am very much looking for ward to seeing the fantastic projects that the children will be involved in at home.

All children must wear appropriate P.E. kit during all P.E. or out door activity lessons. This consists of blue or black jogging bottoms, a white T shirt and pumps or trainers. ( For indoors and outdoors use) No logos or branded clothing are acceptable. During P.E. lessons, the safety of the children is our main concern, no jewelry or watches may be worn and head scarves must be secured neatly.

PE in year 5 is on Wednesdays. During this term we will be continuing our practice of ball skills and using them when playing ball games such as Tennis and Basketball.

Homework will be given out on Wednesdays and is expected back in school the following Tuesday. Homework will usually consist of an English activity, a maths activity, spellings to learn and sometimes a research challenge.

Please make sure that your child reads every day and that you sign and date their planner when they have read with you, as they are checked daily.

Please encourage your child to pay attention to the quality of the work they do at home as we expect them to be aiming for the same standard of work that they can achieve in school.

Please support your child by making sure they have a quiet place to work and encouraging them if they become stuck.
