Our theme for this half-term is:

                      Sand and Water

Over the next few weeks the Ladybirds will be learning about ‘Sand and Water’. This unit is part of the early years programme of the International Primary Curriculum and sets out clearly what children should learn in four groups or ‘strands’ — these are called ‘Independence and Interdependence’, ‘Communicating’, ‘Exploring’, and ‘Healthy Living’. The activities which have been planned will cover these strands in the following ways:

            Independence and Interdependence

We will spend a lot of time finding out about our locality. This will help the children to learn about the links between school and the wider world.

The children will have opportunities to use and develop their language skills when we talk to visitors and describe the visits. We will make all kinds of pictures using new techniques and even make musical instruments using sand and water.

A major focus of this theme is enquiring and researching to draw conclusions about the world around us. The children will sort and classify materials. They will learn about what happens when it rains and which materials will keep us dry.

                       Healthy Living

The children will learn about the importance of keeping themselves safe, especially when they are near water.

We will begin this theme on Wednesday by having a ‘sand and water’ day. The children will play with a variety of sand and water toys in wet and dry sand and coloured and soapy water. We will have a lot of fun, but please note that this will be a very messy occasion!

As always, we welcome any support or suggestions which you may have. Remember you can send us photographs of home learning to:

Changes IPC exit point assembly

A big well done to all the children who participated in the assembly to showcase our learning on 'Changes'. The children spoke and sang confidently in front of our audience. Thank you to the parents who attended.

Houses and Homes

Houses and Homes IPC Exit Point

What fantastic IPC exit points we had for the Houses and Homes topic.  We loved having our parents and carers come into the Nursery to create models of their dream homes with their children. Take a look at the slide show below to see the wonderful creations that were made.

The children have had lots of fun making play dough owls, creating collage owls, exploring the natural treasures sensory bin, building birds nests and retelling the Owl Babies story in our reading den. The Ladybirds have produced some fabulous pictures from the story and have even started labelling their drawings!

Peace at Last

Peace at Last 1
The children enjoyed listening to the 'Peace at Last' story. They retold the story using the sequencing pictures, learned about diurnal and nocturnal animals and made teddy bear toast for baking.

                                         Week 1

We had a very special rhyme week in week 1. Nursery and Reception took part in the Bradford Libraries Rhyme Challenge. The Rhyme Challenge was a fun way to introduce children and families to rhymes. The rhymes may have been new to families or forgotten, and the challenge gave them the confidence to have a go themselves. We were very lucky to hold the launch assembly for Bradford Libraries Rhyme Challenge at Marshfield on the afternoon of Friday 4th November. It was lovely to see so many parents and carers in attendance. The children particularly loved the visit from the Book Start Bear!

Our Favourite Books

The Yellow Ladybirds brought their favourite books from home into Nursery. The children were very excited to share their books with their friends and teachers.

Meet our new pets!

  • Miss Cahill kindly brought us 2 goldfish to look after in the Nursery. After much deliberation by the children, they decided to name the fish Peppa and George. They are very happy in their new home. Please pop over and say hello to the new members of our class!
  • The children have made a fantastic start at Nursery. Take a look at some of the photos below!
