Literacy

We are working very hard to meet the Early Learning Goals in Reading and Writing.

Please read with your child at home regularly.

Literacy – Reading

Children read and understand simple sentences.

They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words & read them aloud accurately.

They also read some common irregular words.

They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.

Literacy – Writing

Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds.

They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves & others.

We have been working hard with our phonics. Please continue to practice the phonemes sent home in the phonics books by saying and writing the phonemes. Please remember to earn 'Book Bucks' by letting your child read to you as often as possible. Most children are now taking home de-codable phonics books which they will be able to read to you. For those children who are not quite ready for these carry on reading the bedtime stories and practice blending cvc words.
