Spring 2 -Plants and Flowers

Our theme for Spring 2 was:

Plants and Flowers

Plants and Flowers Entry Point

We began our new theme with a bunch of flowers being delivered to the class.
We talked about:
• Who they were from and why
• Colours
• Smells
• The parts of the flowers — petal, leaf, stem
• Where and how to keep them

The children then enjoyed having a go at drawing the flowers. Take a look at their super observational drawings below!

Spring 2 Stories of the Week

Nursery Visit to Cartwright Hall

The Nursery children enjoyed a fantastic visit to Cartwright Hall on Wednesday 14th March. We participated in a workshop based around ‘The Enormous Turnip’ story which we have been learning about as part of our ‘Plants and Flowers’ IPC theme.

The children looked at some vegetables and identified the turnip. We discussed what we needed to grow a turnip and then drew some seeds on large sheets of paper. We talked about what a seed needs to grow and pretended to cover our seeds with soil. The children then took part in a movement based activity looking for paintings in the Art Gallery which showed water and sunlight.

We talked about how we would need help to pull the turnip out of the ground and identified characters in one of the artworks that could be in the story. The children put the characters from this painting in size order.

We discussed what we would do with the turnip now it was out of the ground and challenged the children to find fire and pot images in a painting. The Ladybirds then created some fantastic collages of their own versions of the fire and pot. We looked for fish in the gallery artwork and the children created their own fish. We put all our ingredients together in the cooking pots and enjoyed recapping and retelling the story.

The children behaved impeccably and were rewarded with a visit to the adventure playground in Lister Park in the afternoon!

Thank you to the team at Bradford Museums and Galleries for this wonderful learning opportunity and of course our lovely Mummies who came along to support us.
