Our teacher is Mrs Hudson.
Welcome to the Autumn term in year 4 Voles. The children are looking very smart in their new uniforms.
I am very pleased with how they are all settling in so well.
What are we going to be learning this term?
The English we will be doing this term is linked wery closely with our IPC topic of Adventurers and Explorers, so we are sure that the children will be fully immersed.
We are studying about a brave enterprising adventurer called Ernest Shackleton, whose exploits are chronicled in the book Shackleton's Journey.
As we study we will be writing a range of text types including;
log book/ journals,
poetry, persuasive writing,
In Maths, we will be focusing on our number and mental skills.
We will be practicing our place value skills, rounding and ordering of numbers.
We are learning how to use different methods to add, subtract, divide and multiply.You may find the helpful hints posters at the botom of this page useful if you wish to support your child.
All children should continue to practice and learn their times tables off by heart. They will have regular tables tests and by the end of Year 4 they will be expected to know them. There is also a weekly Arithmetic test for all pupils and their scores will be written in to their planners each week.
Our International Primary Curriculum (IPC) topic this half term is Adventurers and Explorers . We will be finding out about the discoveries of lots of famous explorers such as Ibn Batutta and Neil Armstrong. We are also going to be working on our geographical map skills so that we have the skills to become super explorers too!
Every Wednesday we have P.E. Children are expected to come to school in their P.E. kit (a plain t-shirt, jogging bottoms and trainers) and bring a water bottle.
Homework is given out on a Friday and should be returned to school the following Friday.
Spellings will also be given out and children will have to learn the spellings for their spellings test and to use in their own writing.
Planners must be brought to school every day and signed by a parent or guardian at the end of the week, every week.
We expect children to read at home at least 3 times a week! Once you’ve listened to your child, please make a comment and sign it.
